Supporting Academic Growth with a Student-Centered Curriculum

The Challenge: Finding a Partner with Comprehensive and Engaging Curriculum

Student gains informationHart-Ransom Academic Charter School (HRACS) is a WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) accredited charter school based out of Modesto, CA that provides a variety of flexible learning options to students and families who desire direct learning from home – whether they want to learn fully online, or in a blended learning environment.

In 2018, HRACS launched their online program to give students an alternative option that allowed them to work at their own pace. After working with a different online learning provider for the first semester of that year, they decided they needed a change. Their provider at the time couldn’t offer the flexibility or extra teacher support they needed as they navigated online learning for the first time.

The Solution: A Personalized Partnership

After the initial meeting with the FlexPoint team, it was clear that the organizations shared the same core value: the student is at the center of every decision. As the HRACS team felt that their needs were truly being heard, they decided to utilize FlexPoint’s tuition-based school, which provided access to an extensive offering of interactive digital courses and certified instructors who are highly communicative with students. Those resources, plus HRACS’ guidance counselors and school administrators, worked seamlessly together to ensure student success.

“We are so invested in our students and their growth, and as soon as we started working with FlexPoint, we felt like they were equally as invested. That is what a real partnership looks like,” said Rashell Avila, Online Tech Support Specialist with HRACS. “In the past we worked with other online learning providers, and everything felt prescribed. But with FlexPoint, we have the flexibility to personalize learning to match a student's individual needs, and that makes all the difference.”

Almost every lesson of the FlexPoint curriculum includes interactive elements that keep HRACS’ students engaged, such as custom images, audio, videos, and games. Plus, there are checkpoints throughout the courses that allow students to revisit lessons, redo assignments, and complete modules at their own pace to ensure comprehension and understanding. “I really like that there is accountability built into the curriculum through assessments, guided notes, and pace charts,” said Avila.

The Bottom Line: Student Success

Since partnering with FlexPoint, HRACS’ students have thrived in the online environment and, on average, have increased their GPAs by 0.5 points. HRACS attributes student success to the support they receive from FlexPoint. “While there are many online learning providers to choose from, what stands out about FlexPoint is their flexibility and willingness to find solutions,” said Avila. “The team will work with us to find a way that best fits our students’ needs, no matter what.”
