The Aurora Institute Symposium 2024 is only a few weeks away in New Orleans, Louisiana on Nov. 2-5. This one-of-a-kind event brings together innovators from across the U.S. working to transform K-12 education. These innovators all share one common passion: to ensure learning happens outside traditional school walls and is more personalized, competency-based, and future-focused.

At FlexPoint, we couldn’t agree more, which is why I’m excited to share that our FlexPoint team has one workshop at the Symposium this year, featuring our Curriculum Development experts.

Their 90-minute workshop will focus on a question many educators ask themselves, which is, “With the employment landscape constantly changing, how do we ensure that our students are prepared for careers in current and emerging professions?”

To help attendees of the Aurora Institute Symposium plan which sessions to attend, I’ve put together a summary of our workshop focused on Career and Technical Education, including the date, time, and more information on what you can expect. Mark your calendars because this is a session you don’t want to miss.

Every student, regardless of age, gender, race, or socio-economic background, should have the opportunity to connect with learning that excites them and meets them where they are. Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses provide students with a path, starting at an early age, leading them to find success in life and in the workforce. The employment landscape is ever-changing, so now more than ever, it’s critical that we prepare students for careers in current and emerging professions. We can set students up for success through exposure to CTE courses and experiences, beginning in elementary school.

In this session, Senior Managers of Curriculum Development, Amy Heflin, Jaimi Gruler, and Misty Mizzoni, will provide attendees with insights and practical strategies, including:

  • How to bridge the gender, race, and socio-economic gap through CTE courses.
  • Ways to incorporate CTE, beginning in elementary school.
  • Steps needed to elevate CTE programs so that what employers need is paired with what students are excited about.
  • Best practices to research local job markets and create hands-on experiences.
  • Tips to help students gain employability skills.
