You interact with digital art every day, why not learn how to create it? In this course, you will explore the fundamental concepts, tools, and techniques of digital imaging. You'll learn how to use computers, digital cameras, editing software, and more to create digital artworks and use the critique process grow artistically as you evaluate and respond to your own work. This course provides elective credit and fulfills a performing/fine art requirement for high school graduation.

Module One: Digital Imaging

-Identify characteristics of digital imaging

-Explore how technology has changed art as well as opportunities to experience art

-Recognize how artists demonstrate personal responsibility, ethics, integrity, and respect for intellectual property

-Explore the elements of shape and color

-Analyze the meaning of a work of art

-Practice creating and layering shapes in different colors with a digital art software

-Use the artistic process to create a digital image with the use of color and shape

-Create an artist statement to reflect on your work and apply feedback to digital images


Module Two: Photography

-Explore the elements of line and space

-Explore career opportunities in the visual arts

-Analyze the meaning of a work of art

-Explore how to take digital photographs with basic photographic techniques

-Demonstrate the use of emphasis, ethics, line, and space in a digital image

-Create an artist statement to reflect on your work and apply feedback to digital images


Module Three: Capturing Light

-Explore the element of texture and the principle of movement

-Explore how to take digital photographs with lighting techniques and various perspectives

-Demonstrate the use of movement in a digital image

-Use the artistic process to create digital images with a theme that demonstrate texture and lighting and other techniques

-Create an artist statement to reflect on your work and apply feedback to digital images



Module Four: Editing

-Explore the principle of emphasis

-Explore the history of and experiment with photo manipulation

-Experiment with digital editing tools

-Use the artistic process to take a digital photograph and edit using a digital art software

Module Five: Collage

-Identify balance and how artists use it in digital collages

-Experiment with digital collage techniques and typography
