This course encourages you to enjoy and appreciate the media and its role in your daily life while developing independence in research skills and their application. As you explore the impact of media within a variety of cultures and how they influenced social values, you will develop critical understanding of international media through engagement with media products, concepts, and creative application of practical skills. This course meets the criteria of Group 3: Arts and Humanities for students seeking a Cambridge International Diploma.

Module One: Media and Media Texts

-The theoretical framework in which people study the media

-Forms of media

-How the media conveys meaning through images

-Develop technical skills to create a media product

-Research how and why media texts are produced, distributed, and consumed


Module Two: Language

-Camera shots, angles, and movements and their significance

-The use of compositional and editing techniques in television and film

-Characteristics of diegetic and non-diegetic sound

-Editing techniques

-Production design, lighting, and acting

-The different elements that contribute to mise en scène

-Elements that contribute to genre

-Narrative techniques

-Language and mode of address

-Develop technical skills to create a media product

-How media products are mediated

-Archetypes and stereotypes in media products

-How people represent themselves in media products
